Indiana Health Information Exchange sets the pace in 2007

EHR Connection, March 3, 2008

The Indiana Health Information Exchange (IHIE) announced in a February 12 press release that the number of providers using its services increased by 55% during 2007.

IHIE increased the number of hospitals in its network during 2007, expanding outside central Indiana to include the northwest and southwest regions of the state. The network currently includes 36 participating hospitals, according to the press release.

"Over the past four years, the Indiana Health Information Exchange has been one of only a handful of health information exchanges that are successfully exchanging data among independent hospital systems," said Vincent C. Caponi, IHIE board chairman and CEO of St. Vincent Health of Indianapolis.

"The organization's success has been the result of its trusted reputation and solid business services," Caponi said in the press release. "Building on this foundation, the Indiana Health Information Exchange continues to drive efforts that align transparency, efficiency and quality to improve patient health."
