As more healthcare organizations focus on reducing medical errors, many physicians are turning to electronic prescribing technology.
E-prescribing involves the use of computers to review, enter, and transmit prescription-related information. And it offers many practical benefits, including reduced costs, improved efficiency, enhanced patient safety, and clinical decision support, says Caroline Samuels, MD, director of ambulatory care for the internal medicine residency program at Prince George's Hospital Center in Cheverly, MD.
