Tip of the week: Limit legal liabilities in your disaster plans

The more details your hospital builds into its evacuation plan, the more likely you can mitigate an evacuation plan liability, says Chris Apgar, president of Apgar & Associates, an information security consultant firm based in Portland, OR.
In other words, note not only the actions you've taken to prepare, but also the limitations of your plan (i.e., outline the things that you can't control). "It's including in an evacuation plan risks and mitigating factors," Apgar says. It's akin to saying, "Here's the risk, and here's the best I can do to fix that."
