Survey reveals findings on ASC valuation
Ambulatory Surgery Reimbursement Update, February 26, 2008
Healthcare Appraisers, Inc, has released its 5th annual study of ASCs in a survey entitled, "2008 ASC Valuation Survey: How do the ASC companies assess value?"
More than 300 ASCs nationwide are represented in the study, and 62% of respondents bought ASCs in 2007 and plan to buy additional surgery centers in 2008.
The survey found:
- Significant factors affecting an ASCs value are opportunities for growth, the specialties performed at the ASC, and the extent of physician ownership
- A continued preference for orthopedics, ear, nose and throat (ENT), and general surgery specialties because of favorable reimbursement rates for these specialties
- A continued high value of ASCs and strong competition for their purchase, despite recent changes in Medicare reimbursement
