Newly-approved reimbursement raises ASC's interest in prostate cancer brachytherapy programs

Ambulatory Surgery Reimbursement Update, February 26, 2008

Interest in prostate cancer brachytherapy programs is on the rise thanks to new reimbursement codes from CMS for ASCs, according to a Feb. 12 press release issued by Pittsburgh-based Oncology Med, Inc.

Oncology Med, which fulfills services related to cancer treatment, announced in the release that it has seen increased inquiries and demand for the programs since the codes took effect on January 1.

The new codes allow ASCs to bill for all technical services provided on the same day that radioactive brachytherapy seeds are implanted, and are only a few of hundreds of additional procedures CMS approved for 2008.
