Tip of the week: Prevent sepsis and save lives
Infection Control Monitor, February 22, 2008
An ICP's role in preventing sepsis comes well before the onset of the disease; it begins by preventing the infections that lead to sepsis in the first place, says Sean Townsend, MD, faculty member at the Institute for Healthcare Improvement critical care collaborative and an assistant professor at Brown Medical School in Providence, RI.
There are four main areas that ICPs can focus on with regard to sepsis prevention, says Townsend. They are:
- Pneumonia
- Central line infections
- Intra-abdominal infections
- MRSA
To learn more about preventing these infections, go to www.hcpro.com/content/205426.cfm. The cost is $10. Briefings on Infection Control subscribers received this story with their subscriptions.
