WASCA agrees not to bill for medical errors

Ambulatory Surgery Reimbursement Update, February 19, 2008

The Washington Ambulatory Surgery Center Association (WASCA), Washington State Medical Association, and the Washington State Hospital Association have come to an agreement that they will no longer bill patients for medical errors, according to a February 12 Associated Press (AP) article in the Tacoma, WA News Tribune. The list of 28 nonbillable errors include surgeries performed on incorrect body parts and objects left behind in the surgical site.

While the agreement is voluntary, WASCA expects state ASCs to comply, according to the article.
