UnitedHealth Group faces $1.3 billion fine in California

Ambulatory Surgery Reimbursement Update, February 12, 2008

The California Department of Managed Health Care will fine insurer UnitedHealth Group with up to $1.3 billion for allegedly violating state rules regarding health claims, according to a January 29 Minneapolis-St. Paul, MI-based Star Tribune article.

The California Department of Insurance found more than 130,000 violations, which UnitedHealth attributes to a merger with PacifiCare two years ago.
