Tip of the week: Make sure staff know what codes mean
Healthcare Security Weekly, February 11, 2008
If your hospital's system of codes is confusing or vague to staff members, maybe it's time to reevaluate the terms you use.
Figuring out how well your code system works may be as simple as administering retention tests to employees. Alan Lynch, CHPA, HEM, safety and security director for St. Luke's Hospital & Health Network in Bethlehem, PA, realized his facility needed to change its alert verbiage when employees weren't retaining the codes after their initial job training.
To read more hospital codes, go to www.hcpro.com/ppv-76191.html. The cost is $10. Briefings on Hospital Safety subscribers received this story with their subscriptions.
