Choosing a training product: Fun is nice, but effective is better
Lab Safety Advisor, February 5, 2008
When you evaluate a multimedia training product, you must make two important considerations. First, even though all of us would like to make the learning experience as entertaining, fun and painless as possible, our primary goal is to teach employees to perform a job or task properly and safely. Second, all multimedia training is not created equal. Some products are more effective than others. When comparing multimedia products you need to address the following questions:
- Does the product have specific learning objectives that apply to laboratory issues?
- Is the content based on real life tasks or conditions within a laboratory setting?
- Does the program arrange the content in a logical order?
- Is the content technically accurate?
- Does the program include a sufficient amount of information?
- Is the program attractive and appealing to the eye and ear?
