Codey legislation still lingers

Ambulatory Surgery Reimbursement Update, February 5, 2008

Since 1991, Richard J. Codey's law has prohibited physician referrals to facilities in which they have a financial interest. However, in late January, the New Jersey Board of Medical Examiners proposed an emergency amendment in order to circumvent the law and allow a single office to incorporate a separate site where a physician can perform surgery, according to a January 24 article on the Philly.com Web site.

The New Jersey Board of Medical Examiners has not yet officially accepted the emergency amendment, which requires the governor's approval as well.
