New Jersey law requires violence prevention programs
Healthcare Security Weekly, January 28, 2008
A new law passed in New Jersey will require hospitals and nursing homes to establish violence prevention programs to protect healthcare workers.
New Jersey's Governor Jon S. Corzine signed the Violence Prevention in Healthcare Facilities Act earlier this month. The legislation was sponsored by Assemblyman Herb Conaway, MD, (D-Burlington/Camden), who is a practicing physician.
The act requires hospitals to establish a violence prevention committee, develop a written violence prevention plan, conduct an annual risk assessment, and provide annual violence prevention training to protect workers from physical assault or threatening situations.
