Hospital reviews security after patient suicide
Healthcare Security Weekly, January 28, 2008
Officials at St. Patrick Hospital in Missoula, MT are reviewing security measures following the death of an 81-year-old patient who shot himself.
The man, who was in a private room at the hospital, was alone when he shot himself in the head with a .25-caliber handgun on Jan. 12, according to The Missoulian. The county sheriff told the newspaper that the man posed no danger to hospital staff or other patients, and had shown no suicidal tendencies.
A hospital official said administrators are reviewing security policies and procedures to determine if any changes are necessary. The hospital offered counseling to staff following the patient suicide.
