IC is focus area in 2009 Patient Safety Goals

The Joint Commission (formerly JCAHO) is zeroing in on healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) in its proposed National Patient Safety Goals for 2009.
If the Joint Commission approves the proposal, it would add major requirements to its goal of reducing the spread of HAIs calling upon hospitals to implement best practices to prevent:
- MDROs, focusing on MRSA and C. diff
- Catheter-associated bloodstream infections
- Surgical site infections
