Beth Israel aims to eliminate preventable harm

Quality Improvement Monitor, January 18, 2008

Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston has launched an initiative to eliminate all preventable harm to patients within the next four years, according to the Boston Globe.

The medical center also aims to reach the top 2% of hospitals in patient satisfaction, the newspaper reported. It is now in the top 12%.

"This is aggressive," Paul Levy, CEO of Beth Israel Deaconess told the Globe. "We're pushing beyond the level of care at which regulators are comfortable." A portion of senior managers' bonuses will also be tied to making improvements.
