CMS posts FAQ containing ASC questions
Ambulatory Surgery Reimbursement Update, January 22, 2008
CMS posted new ASC Q&As on its FAQ forum January 7.
Questions include the following:
- Under the revised ASC payment system, will ASCs receive separate payment for devices that are paid as pass-through devices under the outpatient prospective payment system (OPPS)?
- Does CMS reduce payment under the revised ASC payment system for instances in which ASCs receive partial credit for a replacement device? How should these cases be billed? What if the ASC does not know if or how much credit they will receive from the manufacturer at the time the replacement device is implanted in the patient?
- Can physicians be paid for their services if they perform procedures that are noncovered in the ASC setting under the revised ASC payment system?
