Vermont governor calls for EHRs statewide by 2010

EHR Connection, January 21, 2008

Governor James H. Douglas of Vermont expressed hope that every physician in the state would be using electronic health information systems by 2010 in his January 10 State of the State address.

Douglas cited the technology's ability to improve the quality of healthcare and reduce its cost as he asked constituents to support his plan. "We also agree that health information technology can improve quality and reduce costs. I ask that you support my plan to help primary care physicians acquire electronic health information systems, with the goal that every doctor in Vermont will be using them by the end of 2010," he said.

Douglas also asked the Vermont Legislature to make affordable healthcare a top priority.
