Clarification on Texas infection-rate reporting
Infection Control Monitor, January 11, 2008
Thanks to an astute Texas reader, we'd like to offer a clarification on a brief we ran on January 4 regarding anticipated legislation in 2008 that would require hospitals in the Lone Star state to disclose their infection rates.
Actually the Texas legislature passed a law in 2007 that calls for the establishment of a reporting system by June 1, 2008. The law calls for the appointment of an advisory panel on healthcare-associated infections, which will write the proposed rules for that reporting system. The proposed rules will be published in The Texas Register, with a public comment period. So until the rules are adopted, reporting won't begin.
To read the law, go to www.capitol.state.tx.us/ and type in SB 288. We regret any confusion.
