New Year begins with smoking ban at Idaho hospital
Healthcare Security Weekly, January 7, 2008
It's a common New Year's resolution made by many people: to quit smoking. In this case, a South Idaho hospital started 2008 by banning smoking on its entire property.
St. Luke's Magic Valley Regional Medical Center in Twin Falls began the ban on January 1, reported the Associated Press (AP). Hospitals officials announced the ban last spring in an effort to be a community role model by promoting healthy lifestyles, the AP reported. Last fall, the hospital introduced a stop smoking program for its employees.
Smoking was already banned inside the building, but now extends even to the parking lot. Construction workers dismantled a smoking hut, the only area where smoking was allowed on the hospital property, on December 31.
