Infection Control Monitor, January 4, 2008

Recent headlines have heightened the public's fears about MRSA and left healthcare consumers seeking more information about how to protect themselves. That means infection control professionals (ICPs) need to be as well versed in public relations skills as they are in IC measures.

"The public is fertile right now to receive education on basic hand hygiene and prevention. As professionals, we should seize these opportunities to reach out to the public and provide [it]," says Deborah Fry, an ICP at Lehigh Valley Hospital in Allentown, PA.
