Tip: Know which questions to ask about speech recognition software
EHR Connection, December 31, 2007
Speech recognition software can save time and money-and lots of it.
The technology is ubiquitous where it's been adopted. Various applications include discharge summaries and operative notes, clinic notes, correspondence, attending notes, admission notes, and laboratory reports.
Before you make the investment, however, ask yourself these important questions:
- Will significant physician training be necessary?
- What type of document management queue does the product under consideration offer?
- What types of productivity and billing reports are available?
- Can the vendor provide real-time upload of dictation into the electronic medical record, or must someone perform this task manually?
- Can physicians provide electronic signatures with this product?
- Does the vendor incorporate customer feedback by hosting annual product advisory meetings?
- Does the software under consideration produce high quality notes?
This tip was brought to you by the December issue of Medical Records Briefing.
