Michigan hospital information available online
EHR Connection, December 31, 2007
The Michigan Health and Hospital Association (MHA), in conjunction with its 146 nonprofit community hospital members, now provides consumers charge, payment, and quality information about Michigan hospitals, according to the group's new Web site.
The Web site provides information about average hospital charges, average payments, and total number of patients for the top 50 Medicare inpatient procedures and the top 50 Medicare outpatient procedures at selected hospitals. Medicare pricing information about average hospital charges, average payments, and the total number of patients for specific inpatient procedures is also available. The Web site also provides quality data on surgical infections and the most common causes of hospitalization, specifically heart attack, congestive heart failure, and pneumonia.
The Web site, MI Hospital Inform, currently provides only publicly available Medicare inpatient and outpatient information. However, MHA's goals include greater transparency in health care and promises that the Web site "will continue to evolve to better address consumers' questions and concerns."
