PPV: Consider speech recognition to boost your bottom line
EHR Connection, December 24, 2007
If you could save your hospital $4 million, reduce your costs by 30%, and decrease the time it takes to transcribe a note from a few days to fewer than six hours, would you? This question is probably a no-brainer, but it's certainly not one that first came to mind when Brigham and Women's Hospital, a 730-bed hospital in Boston, decided to consider speech recognition-software that takes audio input and converts it into typed text-in 2001.
The hospital, which had always outsourced its transcription, originally viewed the software as a way to reduce costs, centralize its work flow and document management, and meet an urgent need to replace a vendor that had gone out of business.

The cost is $10. Subscribers to Medical Records Briefing can sign on for free access.
