New York ASCs cost taxpayers $8 million
Ambulatory Surgery Reimbursement Update, December 18, 2007
New York's state comptroller released a press statement December 3, which detailed shocking news from an audit of four New York ASCs that waived out-of-pocket costs to patients, and submitted out-of-network claims instead. The out-of-network insurer, United HealthCare, paid more than what a participating provider would, which is potentially insurance fraud, according to the press release.
The four ASCs, The Endoscopy Center of Long Island, The Capital Region Ambulatory Surgery Center, The Digestive Health Center of Huntington, and The Day-Op Center of Long Island committed this potential fraud between January 2001 and December 2006.
