Pennsylvania report shows state ASCs, acute-care hospitals net patient revenue

Ambulatory Surgery Reimbursement Update, December 11, 2007

The Pennsylvania Health Care Cost Containment Council, an independent agency across northwestern Pennsylvania, recently reported the financial revenue information of ambulatory surgery centers and nonacute-care hospitals for fiscal year 2006, according to a November 30 Erie Times News article.

Hamot Surgery Center, Village SurgiCenter, and Saint Vincent Surgery Center all reported earning more money in 2006 than in 2005. "Our revenues are still going up, but I think we're reaching a plateau," Hamot Surgery Center Director Emmett Verdecchia told the Erie Times News. "Most of the outpatient surgeries and procedures that used to be done in hospitals have already come over to surgery centers."

Each surgery center had an operating margin of 20% or more in 2006. However Select Specialty Hospital in Erie, PA, reported a -5.52% margin.
