Both the American Association of Ambulatory Surgery Centers (AAASC) and the Federal Ambulatory Surgery Association (FASA) independently voted recently to approve the merger between the two organizations, according to both AAASC and FASA November 30 press releases.
As of January 1, 2008, the two will join together to become the Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC) Association.
The ASC Association will also premier a new board of directors, which will include 10 existing board members from FASA/Foundation for Ambulatory Surgery in America, five members of the AAASC's board, and two new members who weren't previously on either board.
In addition to the merger and the new board of directors, the organization will include an education and research portion called the Ambulatory Surgery Foundation. The Foundation's board members will consist of five existing board members from FASA/Foundation for Ambulatory Surgery in America, and three AAASC board members.
