Utah posts price, quality info online
Quality Improvement Monitor, December 7, 2007
The Utah Department of Health this week started posting information about hospital prices, quality, and patients safety on its Web site, according to the Deseret News.
That information is among the data the Utah Department of Health and the Utah Health Data Committee released Tuesday in their most recent comparison reports for Utah hospitals in treatment areas based on charges, quality and patient safety.
The reports include hip and knee surgeries and conditions, maternity and newborn delivery, pneumonia hospitalizations, and heart surgeries and conditions, which cover the type of care given to 60% of all hospital patients in Utah, Mike Martin, research consultant for the Health Department, told the newspaper.
The average hospital charge for delivering a baby in Utah is $1,576 and the average charge for a hip replacement is $28,358, the paper reported.
