Inverness buys Alere Medical for $302 million

In the second acquisition within six weeks in the disease management (DM) industry, Waltham, MA-based Inverness Medical Innovations bought DM vendor Alere Medical, Inc., for $302 million, including $125 million in cash and $177 million in Inverness common stock. The purchase price totaled about four times the ex-pected 2007 annual revenues of $77 million for Reno, NV-based Alere, according to the companies.
