Tip: Answer these questions before you buy speech recognition software
EHR Connection, December 3, 2007
Speech recognition software does some amazing things, like converting audio input to typed text and reducing transcription time from several days to several hours. And it saves you a bundle of money!
If speech recognition software is in your future, your answers to these questions will help you determine which vendor and product are right for your facility.
- Will significant physician training be necessary?
- What type of document management queue does the product offer? Does it allow you to put notes into a pending queue when a physician doesn't provide a date of service?
- What types of productivity and billing reports are available? Can you generate reports for a particular hospital, clinic, or physician?
- Can the vendor guarantee real-time upload of dictation into the electronic medical record or is it necessary for someone to perform this task manually?
- Can a physician provide an electronic signature with this product?
- Does the vendor welcome and incorporate customer feedback at product advisory meetings?
- What is the quality of the notes that the product produces?
This tip is brought to you by the December issue of Medical Records Briefing.
