Security guard spots missing girl

Healthcare Security Weekly, December 3, 2007

An observant hospital security guard has been credited with helping to find a missing 13-year-old girl in Spokane, WA.

A security guard at Sacred Heart Medical Center, who was on a walking patrol of the facility on November 23, recognized the teenager from a missing person flier he'd seen posted at the hospital, reported KHQ-TV. The girl was missing for almost a year-and-a-half.

During a police interview, the girl's mother admitted she and her daughter were the people in the flier and had relocated in Spokane under false names, the TV station reported. The 13-year-old was living in Germany with her parents when her mother took her and left the country in the summer of 2006. Authorities planned to reunite the girl with her father, who now lives in Virginia.
