Tip of the week: Closer link possible for safety and security standards

Healthcare Security Weekly, November 26, 2007

If The Joint Commission (formerly JCAHO) ratifies its proposed EC standard revisions as written, look for the combination of general safety and security concerns-currently delineated by EC.1.10 and EC.2.10, respectively-into one standard.

Some of the to-be-combined safety and security items tend to piggyback similar current provisions within the two standards, says Steven MacArthur, safety consultant for The Greeley Company, a division of HCPro, Inc., in Marblehead, MA.

To learn more about the proposed changes to EC standards, go to www.hcpro.com/ppv-78579.html. The cost is $10. Briefings on Hospital Safety subscribers received this story with their subscriptions.
