AAO reports ophthalmology advances for 2008
Ambulatory Surgery Reimbursement Update, November 20, 2007
The American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) reports that despite the 10.1% cut in the 2008 Medicare conversion factor, ophthalmology will gain a "major victory in relinking evaluation and management (E&M) and eye visit codes [that] will result in a 2% increase to ophthalmology's Medicare payments," says the AAO Web site.
The AAO also notes that, "In a significant advance for ophthalmology, CMS has accepted the AMA Relative Value Scale Update Committee (RUC) recommendation that payments for eye visit codes be improved and be brought in line with the increases instituted in 2007 for E&M services."
