PPV: One hospital ensures success by providing resources and promoting communication

EHR Connection, November 19, 2007

Citizens Memorial Healthcare (CMH) is a small rural facility in Bolivar, MO, that first started to plan for an EHR in 1999. The facility's goal was to achieve seamless continuity of care for its patients and to eliminate frustrations, such as poor communication and inaccessible paper charts.

By the end of 2003, all of CMH's physicians were online with an EHR system that integrated patient information from all CMH service points, including a 74-bed acute care hospital, home care, five long-term care facilities, and 16 physician clinics. CMH's EHR system includes information about every interaction a patient might have had with CMH. And in addition to the EHR, all 98 CMH physicians use computerized physician order entry.
