HIT Alliance seeks volunteers for "definition" work groups
EHR Connection, November 19, 2007
The National Alliance for Health Information Technology (Alliance) seeks volunteers for two work groups that will develop consensus-based definitions for the standard use of key HIT terms.
HHS' Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC), a partner in this endeavor, announced November 6 that the Alliance will accept applications for work group membership through November 16.
The Records Work Group will develop a consensus on definitions for electronic medical record (EMR), electronic health record (EHR), and personal health record (PHR) while the Networks Work Group works on definitions for health information exchange (HIE) and regional health information organization (RHIO).
The Alliance seeks volunteers from providers, manufacturers/vendors of healthcare IT products, payers, purchasers, employers, consumer advocacy groups, associations and professional organizations, academic institutions, government, and currently operating health information exchanges and regional health information exchanges.
Ideal candidates are leaders of national stature able to represent the healthcare field and their organization, experts with experience in the work group's focus area, and recognized leaders within organizations that are willing and able to participate in this project.
The biweekly work group meetings will begin November 30, and will continue via teleconference until publication of a final report in March 2008.
