October 1 brought significant changes to the coding world, and your coders are being forced to adapt to new codes, complications and comorbidities (CCs) vs. major CCs (MCCs), and the use of the present on admission (POA) indicator. Why not reward them for their hard work, attention to detail, and adaptability?
Consider rewarding productive or accurate coders with an additional day off, a gift certificate to the healthcare facility's cafeteria or gift shop, a special employee-recognition pin, or a simple certificate posted in the employee's cubicle or on an organization bulletin board. Another popular recognition approach linked to productivity is a designated parking spot-similar to employee of the month parking spots at restaurants, department stores, and other commercial establishments.
