The Computing Technology Industry Association (CompTIA) reported a marked increase in security breach severity levels experienced in the last 12 months, according to a survey commissioned by the organization. Organizations that experienced breaches in the last year reported an average severity level of 4.8 on a scale of 0-10, with 10 being the most severe rating. During the prior two years, the ratings were 2.3 and 2.6, according to a September 18 CompTIA press release. The survey found no significant differences in security breach severity levels between larger or smaller organizations, and also reported that 23% of breaches originated internally.
