Information on 5,783 Johns Hopkins Hospital's patients was compromised when a computer containing the data was stolen from an administrative area of the facility's main campus on July 15, according to the Baltimore Sun. The stored information included names, Social Security numbers, medical histories, as well as other personal information, says the Baltimore Sun, which reported the breach September 1, six weeks after the breach occurred.

However, September 2 the missing computer was returned to the hospital, reports the Baltimore Business Journal. The facility is now hiring a specialist to determine whether the patients' data was accessed while the computer was missing, says the Business Journal.
