Antifraud standards subject of EHR report

RTI International, one of the world's leading research institutes, recommended to HHS that electronic health records vendors design systems to prevent and detect fraud and improper payments, according to the American Hospital Association News.

RTI prepared a report specifically for HHS' Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology that outlined these recommendations. The report recognizes that the vast majority of clinicians do not commit fraud, and should not be burdened by mechanisms aimed at those who do.

RTI's recommended requirements intend to help the majority by promoting error reduction and good documentation practices, as well as provide guidance with respect to unwarranted accusations of fraud and stronger proof of legitimacy.
