Query-only NPI database operational September 4

CMS will release National Plan and Provider Enumeration System (NPPES) provider data on the Internet September 4, according to the CMS Web site. Healthcare provider data will be available as an online query-only database (known as the NPI Registry) and as a downloadable file. The registry will be functional on September 4 and available for download approximately one week later. Publicly-accessible NPPES information includes the following:

  • NPI
  • Entity type code (i.e., individual or organization)
  • Replacement NPI
  • Provider name
  • Provider other name
  • Provider business mailing address
  • Provider business location address
  • Healthcare provider taxonomy code
  • Other provider identifier(s)
  • Other provider identifier type code
  • Provider enumeration date
  • Last update date
  • NPI deactivation reason code
  • NPI deactivation date
  • NPI reactivation date
  • Provider gender code
  • Provider license number
  • Provider license number state code
  • Authorized official contact information
Providers had until August 20 to view their data and submit necessary edits to the query-only database and first version of the downloadable file.
