The North Carolina Healthcare Information and Communications Alliance (NCHICA) released a template for policies covering health data security stored on portable devices, including laptops, USB drives and PDAs, according to an August 17 article in Healthcare IT News. The template, entitled Managing Sensitive Electronic Information on Portable Devices and Removable Media, contains all of the necessary policies and procedures needed to protect PHI when users access the information outside of, or removed from, a physical healthcare facility.
NCHICA is a nonprofit organization that aims to provide neutral forum for healthcare information technology initiatives, according to the article.
