Detroit residents found abandoned medical records at a vacant dealership near the bankrupt Greater Detroit Hospital, reported the Associated Press on August 15. They recovered hundreds of boxes, which contained thousands of files, at the site. Quality Health Plan, the previous owners of the hospital, has removed the records, though they claim no ownership or responsibility for the files. The Michigan Department of Community Health is investigating the situation, and could fine up to $10,000 for each abandoned record, according to the Associated Press article.
