By 2010, Rhode Island aims to implement electronic health records for the majority of its residents. Rhode Island will use Electronic Data Systems Corporation (EDS), and subcontractor InterSystems Corporation, "to build and integrate the necessary technology and software," according to a July 30 Rhode Island Department of Health press release. The press release also stated that the state's Department of Health "has engaged a wide range of consumer advocacy groups, health care attorneys, and others to ensure the system protects patients' privacy. . ." Rhode Island will likely be the first of many states with a statewide record database, if EDS and InterSystems Corporation completes the project on time.
