Tip of the week: Take note of certain ICD-9 code revisions for 2008

CMS made the most revisions to oncology codes. It introduced 54 new codes, in particular, for lymphoma. Look at the following code sets to see where some of the revisions lie:

  • Hearing impairments (more accurate descriptions)
  • Dysphagia (six types)
  • Myotonia/myotonic disorders
  • Family history of certain conditions (six codes)
  • Ascities (specifying causes)
  • Cardiac tamponade
