A new Web site called In Case of Emergency: Rx History will provide prescription histories to physicians and pharmacists anywhere in the country after a disaster. Based on a site that was cobbled together after Hurricane Katrina, Rx History will offer fast, secure, HIPAA-compliant access to displaced people's medication information.

In the event of an emergency, Brooks Eckerd, CVS/pharmacy, Giant Food Pharmacy, Kerr Drug, Longs Drugs, Rite Aid, Stop & Shop, Walgreens, and Wal-Mart will provide access to Rx History through the SureScripts-operated Pharmacy Health Information Exchange. Additional pharmacies can join in the future. Licensed prescribers can access Rx History either via electronic-prescribing software and EHR or the portal ICERx.org, which will activate during an emergency.
