The University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) is conducting an investigation after approximately 80 patients' PHI ended up on a publicly-accessible Web site. UPMC removed the information April 10, immediately after learning of the oversight, according to a news release.
A former faculty member at UPMC included the sensitive information (e.g., names, Social Security numbers, and medical conditions/treatments) in a symposium presentation to other providers. The presentation appeared on the Web site after the symposium. UPMC is notifying affected patients and will pay for credit monitoring services.
