Authorities have charged a former employee of University of Illinois Medical Center at Chicago with identity theft after an investigation revealed that he may have misused eight patients' personal information, reports the Chicago Tribune.

A tip led police to investigate 28-year-old Leslie Langford, an emergency medical technician; officials were able to track Langford's access to the center's electronic health record system and found that he had obtained the personal information of more than 200 patients. They later determined that Langford had misused the personal information of eight patients, according to the Tribune.

The medical center sent a letter March 8 warning potential victims. Langford stopped working for the center March 9.
