Poll: Patients optimistic about technology, privacy

Sixty-three percent of respondents to a January Harris Interactive poll said that privacy rights do not have to be sacrificed to successfully use computers to store/share medical information, Health Data Management reports.

Although 70% of the 2,237 respondents reported they are satisfied with healthcare providers' protection of their personal information, approximately half said that patients no longer have control over how employers, insurance companies, and the government use their medical records. Seventeen percent of respondents said that worries about disclosures have prevented them from sharing some information with their healthcare providers.
