VA security still lax

Auditors of the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) told a congressional committee that security lapses continue, reports the Associated Press (AP). The VA's inspector general told the committee that the VA does not typically encrypt information and does not adequately track portable devices/media.

The inspector general's office also reported that the department has failed to implement a variety of information security recommendations that came on the heels of a May 2006 security breach that affected almost 27 million veterans.
