President Bush last week encouraged Congress to pass legislation protecting Americans' genetic privacy, reports The New York Times. "If a person is willing to share his or her genetic information, it is important that that information not be exploited in improper ways," Bush said in remarks at the National Institutes of Health.

The Senate passed a genetic non-discrimination bill in 2003 but the House failed to follow up on it. House members recently reintroduced the bill, according to The Times.
