Three big companies-Wal-Mart, Intel, and British Petroleum-are collaborating on a plan to provide personal health records (PHRs) to their employees, the Wall Street Journal reports. Intel and Wal-Mart have been working together on the plan since this past summer in an effort to reduce healthcare costs, and eventually about 10 employers are expected to collaborate on the plan.

The companies will store the PHRs in a warehouse and they will be interoperable. The companies will also encourage participants to select physicians who will use and update the PHRs. According to KaiserNetwork.org, the Patient Privacy Rights Foundation is urging employers not to participate until privacy protections are in place.
